FAQ

Answers from Safescapes and Matt.

How often does a surface need resealing?
Safescapes puts the lifespan of rubber surfaces at about 20 years and recommends resealing every 3–5 years, depending on traffic and UV exposure.
How is damage patched?
The damaged area is cut out and the edges roughed up so the patch doesn't leave straight lines. Safescapes leaves leftover rubber with you at the end of the job so the patch matches.
How long until I can walk or park on it?
Cure time depends on temperature and humidity. The typical wait is 48 hours before walking on it. Safescapes recommends waiting longer before parking a car or putting heavy items on it.
How do I clean it?
Power-wash it, safely up to 3200 psi held a couple of inches from the surface.
Do I need a concrete base?
No. Concrete is the most common base, but rubber also goes over stone, asphalt, interlock, wooden decks, and aggregate like gravel.
Is it waterproof?
No. It's porous, so water drains through and follows the slope underneath, which helps keep it non-slip. Pour sealers can be added to divert water.
Can I choose colours and designs?
Yes. There's a wide range of colours for custom blends, plus borders, company logos or a sports team logo.
How does it handle winter?
It's bound with resin throughout, so it expands and contracts instead of cracking or lifting in freeze-thaw cycles. It's safe to shovel and snow-blow. Safescapes doesn't recommend snow plows.
Who is the training for?
Contractors and owners. It's 2 days, hands-on, in Hamilton, ON.
What does the training cost and when is it?
$5,995 CAD (~$4,400 USD) per person. Dec 8–9, 2026 or Jan 27–28, 2027. Only 20 spots.
Do you do horse barn floors?
Yes. SafeHoof™ is Safescapes' equestrian flooring: cushioned, anti-slip and resistant to hoof damage, with non-porous options for wash stalls.
What happens after I apply?
Matt contacts qualified applicants within 48 hours.
What do I get when I submit a form?
A reference number (LF-SS-Q for quotes, LF-SS-T for training) so your request can be tracked.
